Description
Billing Phone Required for WooCommerce
Stop losing contact with customers over a skipped field.
Billing Phone Required makes the phone number field mandatory at checkout — on both the classic (shortcode) checkout and the newer block-based checkout — so every order comes with a way to actually reach the customer for delivery issues, failed payments, or order confirmations.
What it does
- Enforces a required phone number on both checkout types. Classic checkout and block checkout are both covered natively — no separate add-on needed for either.
- Real enforcement, not just a visual label. The check happens server-side when the order is placed, so it can’t be bypassed by disabling JavaScript or editing the page source.
- Configurable minimum digit count. Set how many digits a phone number must contain to be accepted (rejects junk entries like “-” or “n/a”) from a simple admin settings screen.
- Built for current WooCommerce. Declares compatibility with High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) and Cart & Checkout Blocks.
- Free. No payment required to activate or use.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.0+
- WooCommerce 7.0+ (tested up to 9.0)
- PHP 7.4+
- A free license key (one-time activation per site, used for update delivery — no payment involved)
Limitations
Worth knowing before you install:
- Digit-count validation only. The plugin checks that a phone number contains enough digits to plausibly be real; it does not validate country-specific formats, area codes, or carrier-level validity. A determined customer can still enter a fake-but-numeric phone number.
- Block checkout’s visible “(optional)” label is a separate WooCommerce setting. On the block checkout, the label text next to the Phone field is controlled by the Checkout page’s own block configuration, not by this plugin. This plugin’s enforcement blocks order placement either way, but if you want the label itself to read “required” rather than “optional,” that’s set independently in the block editor (Pages → Checkout → select the Checkout block → Phone → Required). Some WooCommerce versions have a known core bug where this toggle doesn’t visually persist — that’s a WooCommerce issue, not this plugin.
- Billing vs. shipping phone. Classic checkout enforces the billing phone specifically. Block checkout enforcement checks billing phone first and falls back to shipping phone only if billing is empty — it does not require both.
- No input masking or formatting. The field accepts free-form text; there’s no auto-formatting like
(555) 123-4567as you type. - One license activation per website. The free license is tied to a single site URL at a time; moving sites requires deactivating and reactivating.
- Requires WooCommerce active. The plugin does nothing (and shows an admin notice) if WooCommerce is deactivated.
